Yesterday as i was doing an update to a site i've developed some time ago an ideea hit me: why not use as background for the input something like:

Yahoo Messenger Status Exploit FIX

Dupa ce Realitatea TV a anuntat azi un expploit toata Romania si-a aratat nivelul intelectual, cu status-uri care de care mai deocheate.
Pentru a scapa de toti idiotii urmati pasii:

in fereastra principala de mess click in meniu pe Messenger -> Preferences -> Ignore List si Bifati Ignore all who are not in my contacts list

SPAM-ul nostru cel de toate zilele

De ceva timp incoace, pe langa cele n mail-uri zilnice primesc n*10 spam-uri...acum vreo 3zile efectiv m-am saturat si m-am decis sa iau masuri: am inceput sa ma dezabonez de la absolut fiecare newslleter care l-am primit si care nu "poate fi considerat spam pentru ca bla bla bla..".

Metoda nu este absolut cea mai buna sau revolutionara dar daca am aplica-o cat mai multi cei care-si promoveaza afacerile/serviciile in modul asta ar intelege ca de fapt nu fac decat sa supraincarce niste servere de mail sa blacklist-eze niste ip-uri iar cel mai important sa agaseze oameni; personal nu am cumparat inca nimic datorita vreunui newsletter primit si am vreo 15ani de internet in spate.

Asadar oameni buni dezabonativ-va...dar aveti in minte urmatoarele:
-veti intalni pagini de dezabonare care sunt facute special sa se incarce greu, dand senzatia de eroare, facandu-te pe tine utilizatorul sa renunti
-sunt pagini care pun intrebarile cu sens invers astfel incat desi normal la dezabonare raspunsul corect ar fi da treb sa apesi nu (cititi cu atentie intrebarea)
-unele pagini de dezabonare nu functioneaza deloc..folositi adresa de pe site ul respectiv de la contact folosind un limbaj cuviincos dar ferm pt a fi dezabonat

Asadar dezabonandu-va nu doar ca le transmiteti ca va deranjeaza dar ei la randul lor dau/vand/imprumuta baza lor de date de email-uri catre alti prieteni/clienti.

ps: dupa numai cateva zile deja se simte efectul....

VPN for iPhone with DDWRT

for all of you that wanted to have a secure connection for your iPhone i have good news; i'm sure i'm not the first ..but i made it

requirments:

a)a nice router which firmware can be changed to ddwrt (for tutorial it vary from router to router but you will find plenty of tutorials); despite the fact that configuring pptp vpn server it's pretty easy:

1. go to services -> vpn -> pptp server - enable
2. enter one local ip address
3. i use google dns servers
4. define the range of ip's that should be allocated
5. define users, one per line ..pay close attention to spaces here - ex: john * pass *

IMPORTANT: despite on security tab-> vpn passthru pptp is enabled i didn't managed to make it work until i went to administration tab -> commands -> and added 2 lines to firewall:

iptables -I INPUT -p udp --dport 1723 -j ACCEPT
iptables -I INPUT -p udp --dport 47 -j ACCEPT

...the credit for these commands, as i am no linux expert, goes to my master friend
..and also big thanks for the guys who developed DD-WRT; i just love it

Filezilla Server MLSD issue

Like many other today i had a major issue NAT-ing port 21 for a FTP server behind a Windows 2003 Server Small Bussiness; i've read all kinds of suggestions and results on Google without finding solution.

The main topic on this issue on google seems to be on RFC guidlelines and implementation on MLSD ftp command over LIST.

After spending of a few hours with different server/client settings i found solution which is quite obvious, i think, but ....

FTP connection uses port 21 for DATA CONTROL and other negociated port (u cand specify server side a port range) for DATA TRANSFER; so i've added on FTP server a port range like 30000-30001 for data transfer and the NAT these 2 ports to the server machine.

what can i say ......EVRIKA!
